Alex has always known his bipolar disorder made him too flawed for his boyhood hero, Everett. So when his feelings for Everett became overwhelming, he forced a separation that saddened them both but gave Alex the clarity he needed. Now a year has passed, and he and Everett are together again when Everett’s noisy, imperfect family reunites for Christmas, pulling Alex into their chaotic warmth the way they always have. Can Everett convince Alex that, in spite of his fears, starting a relationship would make for the perfect holiday?

For some reason I thought the MC's were around college age, instead they're almost 30, successful men. Alex is a published writer with a public history of bad behaviour stemming from being bipolar and suffering from depression. This aspect of the story is very realistic and well described but overall the story felt like it was continually dropping hints about conversations and incidents that are never fully explained and the lead up to Alex and Everett having a conversation that wasn't conducted in riddles and inside references seemed interminable. When they did finally talk to each and things became a little bit physical my patience seemed to be rewarded and I was hoping for at least one decent scene in which they weren't a) drunk b) surrounded by family c) struck dumb by the proximity of the other. Instead - the story ended, albeit on a hopeful note. Very frustrating.Product details

A Wealth of Unsaid Words edition by R Cooper Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I love R Cooper's writing and this is an engrossing tale of a couple coming together at Christmas time.
The bi polar disorder that shaped one heroes life comes into play in a powerful way in this love story.
Copper writes in deep point of view with lyrical language. I often love it but some times it is suffocating. This novella wanders into not giving me enough outside to breath.
I liked it but I needed more room and scope.
So many of R. Cooper's books are sweet, charming and emotionally satisfying. But this was one book I wish I hadn't wasted money on. The first scene dragged. The second scene was schizophrenic. It was all over the place and made no sense. The rest of the story was just painful to read. It was miscommunication and misunderstandings which just dragged on and on until an incomplete, unsatisfying ending. Perhaps this story was so painful to write she was unable to go back and proofread it. I appreciate the sensitivity of the topic of mental illness. But this story just feels unfinished in more ways than one. Read her other books. They are terrific. Especially Vincent's Thanksgiving Date.
This is a sweet Christmas read.
I'm beginning to think R. Cooper specialises in 'difficult reads'... Lucky, I love them!
Somehow in A Wealth of Unsaid Words, R. Cooper is both deft and hard-hitting.
Anyone who has experienced a form of mental illness such as bipolar or depression, or been the friend/loved one, of a sufferer will bleed to read this story.
It's short, but succinct.
It hits home and yet it lets you fill in the gaps yourself with your own experience.
Be ready to be moved.
Be ready to hurt for the characters.
Be ready to ache.
Be ready to urge a leap of faith.
And be ready to smile.
The emotion of this story drew me in so quickly. You could feel Alex's longing for a love he's not even sure he'll ever have, and he's done so much to show himself he can reach for that love with Everett. The whole story is from Alex's point of view, but you still get the full impact of Everett's hope, pain, and yearning as well. Alex and Everett are powerful characters in an endearing love story that delivers all the elements you need for a truly satisfying happily-ever-after. I'm looking forward to reading it again.
It it's beyond literature - it's poetry. The words just work so perfectly and the story is beautiful. I loved it and recommend it.
Ms. Cooper nails what it's like to be a manic depressive. You usually have to be one of us to get it, but I really hope she's just a very perceptive writer. This is a sickness you would never wish on another human being, and when someone writes words that just resonate with your life, it makes you choke up. So I admire her as an author all the more.
R. Cooper has written three novellas that pack as much intensity and length of journey as a long novel each. This is one of them. Each novella displays such understanding of human beings in all their nuances of emotion; depth and uniqueness of personality; all their self-absorption, mistakes and glorious redemptions; all their unconscious hypocrisies and prejudices; all their self sacrifices, courage, and bright brilliance of being.
The other two novellas are "Let there be Light" and "Some Kind of Magic". I usually hate the short story/novella format. But R. Cooper's novellas fill me full, and I love them enough to have them on my "re-read rotation". Each couple is intense and unique. Written from one point of view, both protagonists in each story are fully realized, and each member of each couple has to grow in maturity and communication skills in order to reach the reward of each others' arms. (...beds/staircases/shower stalls/garden benches..) The supporting cast in "A Wealth of Unsaid Words", and especially in "Some Kind of Magic" are also delightful to have around.
This all sounds kind of heavy and serious, but these three novellas are also packed full of fun, or intensity, or adventure. I find them all wildly original in comparison to others in their genre and completely satisfying. The three novellas each have a very different level of erotic play, but none of them leave me feeling unfulfilled. (Hint Some Kind of Magic is the heaviest on erotica.) R. Cooper blows most m/m Author competition out of the water, without having near the number of sexual encounters or kinkiness of of most m/m Eroticas.
